Legal Services Are Essential to NYC’s Recovery from a Triple Pandemic

Low-income communities of color are facing a triple pandemic – COVID-19, economic hardship, and systemic racism. Recent reports have highlighted the looming devastation – 40% of New Yorkers are unable to pay rent;40% of Black-owned businesses have temporarily closed and unsure if they will re-open.

Since the start of the pandemic, Brooklyn A has been on the front lines responding to immediate needs and preparing for the flood of commercial and residential evictions and foreclosures when those moratoria are lifted. Through our legal services and advocacy, we are reinforcing and expanding the social safety net to protect vulnerable New Yorkers, particularly around housing and small business stability.

Access to high-quality free legal services and advocacy are essential services to help communities recover from these crises. We have served NYC’s marginalized communities since our founding 51 years ago. We will continue to be there as the needs intensify. Together, with our partners in social justice, we will continue building and supporting community resilience.

Justice grows stronger when we build it together.
